TDN is a valuable treatment for musculoskeletal pain. TDN involves placing a small needle into the muscle at the trigger point in order to cause the muscle to contract and then release, improving the flexibility of the muscle and therefore decreasing the symptoms. Trigger points can develop after injury or chronic pain. The needle creates a small cramp in the muscle which causes a release of the tight muscle bands. The needle desensitizes the area, so the muscle and nerves are no longer irritated and thus, pain can be reduced.
If you have an acute injury where you have muscle pain/guarding this could be a viable intervention to treat and eliminate your symptoms in an expeditious manner, thus enabling you to return to your activity of choice or sport, as quickly as possible.
If you have a chronic condition that you have not sought care or has not responded to other forms of treatment, this could be a viable treatment option.
