What is Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy?
Pelvic floor physical therapy is a non-surgical approach related to treating the muscles that support the pelvis. These muscles play a role in urinary, bowel, and sexual function. They also contribute to the stability of the pelvis, spine, and hips.
Pelvic floor PT in combination with routine treatment has been shown to provide significant benefits in pain and disability compared to standard treatment alone!
What does a eval look like?
It starts with taking a comprehensive past medical history including challenges that are affecting your life. Often this can cover very personal concerns. It can involve an internal exam if consent is obtained. Some conditions can also be approached externally if appropriate.
What does a treatment session look like?
It depends! It may involve internal work and manual techniques to release muscles and get feedback as to how the muscles of the pelvis are functioning. It will include education on your condition, exercises, movement and posture analysis or other interventions you might benefit from.
